Welcome to Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.  We formed as a volunteer fire company in 1977.  With the number of volunteer fire departments finally reaching 12, and 20 physical stations, Prince William County assigned numbers to each -- Evergreen being Company 15.

We are a combination career/volunteer agency with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year emergency service coverage.  A fire engine is always available while the tanker is staffed 6AM to 6PM and the ambulance is staffed 6PM to 6AM.  Of course, if a particular unit is needed, the on duty personnel will make adjustments as necessary.

Operational volunteers at Evergreen are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) or Firefighters.  Some of our members have even cross-trained to become both. The EMT certification requires 120 hours of class while the intro Firefighter course demands 212 hours of didactic and practical sessions.  Administrative volunteers do not run calls but devote their time and energy toward supporting the operational members in any way they can.  Raising funds is the primary role of the auxilliary, or Associate, members.  However, their assistance goes beyond finance and some of our associate members provide the occasional meal for the operation crews who are on duty.

As most people would expect, volunteers do not get paid therefore they generally volunteer their time and skills on weeknight evenings and weekends or as available when not at work.  The volunteer shifts start at 6PM and conclude at 6AM the following day.  Weekend shifts are full 24 hour shifts.  Career personnel work in 3 different shifts: A, B, and C.  Each shift works 24 hours starting at 6AM and ending at 6AM the following day.  Paid personnel work every third day.

The EVFDRS has 9 apparati.  A fire engine, a tanker, and an ambulance are the frontline apparatus.  The second line peices are the brush truck, a reserve ambulance and a reserve pumper.  In addition to those units, Evergreen has a 4x4 EMS suburban used in situations where the ambulance cannot access a patient.  Finally, Evergreen has 2 SUV's: Chief 515 and Chief 515-A, the battalion chief's vehicle. These are used for rapid response regardless of where they may be in the region.

Company 15 covers the areas of Bull Run, Catharpin, Haymarket, and Sudley Springs.  Our first due (the area in which we are expected to be first on scene) extends as far North as the Loudoun county line, East to the intersection of Gum Spring and Sudley, South to Graduation Drive and Route 15, and West--everything north of Jackson Hollow to the Fauquier county line.  The distance of our firehouse to your home determines not only our response time but also your home insurance premium.  Any questions in reference to your insurance can be answered by calling our station.

Prince William County Public Safety Communications Center uses an operating procedure to dispatch units to 911 calls based upon what type of event the call is categorized as.  A typical response to any emergency or public service will bring the fire engine as it has a large array of equipment and the properly trained personnel prepared for an event that may worsen.  For this reason, the on duty personnel may take the fire engine to the grocery store.  The preferred unit for an emergency medical call is the ambulance.  However, only when this is not possible does Company 15 send the engine and request an ambulance from another jurisdiction.
